Samsung has launched the official OTA Update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100. Use this tutorial and learn how to successfully update your device to the latest firmware version.
This tutorial should be used by users who didn’t get the official OTA KitKat Update notification on their phones. Note that it should be used by advanced users and that the firmware below was originally released for France-based devices. In case the phone boots in normal with French set as the default language, then you should go to the Settings menu and change it back to English.
Here are certain aspects that users should note before installing the firmware manually: – All data stored in the device should be backed up – The device must have at least 80 percent battery power – The USB drivers for the device must be installed on the computer and USB Debugging must be enabled on your device – After flashing the firmware, any installed custom ROM will be lost – Custom recovery, such as ClockworkMod Recovery or TWRP, will also be lost.
Note: AndroidTechnicians cannot be held responsible for anything that goes wrong. Users should proceed at their own risk.
》Steps to install the update on your device Step 1: Download the firmware package and extract the zip file. You will get a .tar.md5 file and some .dll files.
Step 2: Download Odin v3.07, and extract the zip file.
Step 3: Run Odin v3.07 as an Administrator.(see image below)
Step 4: Boot your Galaxy Note 2 into Download Mode by pressing and holding VolumeDown, Home and Power buttons. After you get a warning message, press Volume Up key to enter in Download Mode. (see image below)
Step 5: Connect your Galaxy Note 2 to the computer via the USB cable and wait until Added message appears in Odin. Step 6: Click on PDA button and select .md5 file that was explained in Step 1 (Android KitKat update). (see image below) Step 7: Tick ‘Auto Reboot’ and ‘F.Reset Time’ check boxes. (Don’t tick on any other check boxes or it may cause your device gets bricked) [see image below for your safety]
Step 8: Click on Start button to flash ans install KitKat on your Galaxy Note 2.
Step 9 (a): Wait for 5 to 7 Minutes…..
Step 9 (b): “Pass” Message will appear in odin to confirm that the installation is completed and your device will restart. Step 10: Congratulations ! You have successfully installed or updated your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100. If the installation didn’t complete then youmight find a solution in the suggestions below.
NOTE 1: If ODIN freezes or the process fails, then you will be forced to repeat the entire tutorial more than once. Make sure that you do not to skip any steps and that the firmware you’re attempting to flash is support by your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 device.
NOTE 2: If ODIN says that the process has failed, the phone freezes or it enters into a boot loop without booting in normal mode, or it boots in normal mode but it shows too many errors, then you have to apply a Factory Reset. Factory reset will wipe all data from the system partition, but it will help your Note 2 boot in normal mode after the update. Here’s how to do it:
- power off the Galaxy Note completely
- next, boot the device in Recovery Mode
- select the ‘wipe data/ factory reset’
- wait for the process to complete, then use the ‘reboot’ option to boot in normal mode
